Point Europa is a registered charity set up to create jobs, training and new opportunities for people on the Rame Peninsula.

European volunteers. We host four volunteers from various EU countries, who work for community organisations in Kingsand/Cawsand: pre-school, Community Hall, Institute, youth club, both churches, Beaver Scouts, primary school, giving language classes, clearing beaches and footpaths, helping at social events and more. We hope to gradually expand this project.

Childcare. We run the After School Club at Fourlanesend, breakfast clubs at Fourlanesend and Millbrook School, and a holiday club, based at Kingsand Scout Hall. We have created part-time work for 9 local people and 64 childcare places.

New language school. We are currently setting up a small language school, to offer English classes to foreign students. Adults will stay in the village and young people (summer only) at Maker. If the idea works, we want to expand it to other villages.

International youth projects. We have partner organisations in most European countries. We arrange residential events here, and overseas, where young people can make new friends and have new experiences. 35 young locals from Rame and Torpoint have participated so far.

International training development projects. Our specialist training analyst and designer works with European partner organisations to develop new courses and methods. We are currently in a 10-nation partnership creating new multicultural childcare training.

Support for community organisations:

Congregational Church. Support on fundraising and admin. We helped raise money for the summertime Mystery Plays, repairs to the church ceiling and the refurbishment of the Manse ground floor, a total of £36,500 so far.

Maker Heights. We support Maker financially and with admin tasks, trying to ensure its survival as a community asset.

Scout Hall. We helped the Scouts raise £15,000 towards improvements to the Hall, and hope to work with them on further developments.

Kingfisher pre-school. We helped raise £5000 for new equipment and staff training.

The future

Point Europa is working well and achieving a lot of positive results. We are looking at ways to create more employment and training opportunities in the area, using the “social enterprise” model – community owned businesses, returning all profits to the area.
